Working With Bathroom Remodeling Contractors
Bathroom remodeling contractors are in your house to perform a job and nothing
else. If you only have one bathroom in your house then your bathroom remodeling
project may pose some minor problems. You may want to plan ahead to use a
neighbor’s facility or try to clear the house out for the day if you know that a
professional will be working on your only bathroom. Make sure at least one
person is there to keep an eye on the contractor(s) though. Keep in mind that
bathroom contractors are not implicitly aware of your bathroom needs and the
water will probably turned off throughout the day. If you feel uncomfortable
having a stranger working in your personal space, consider removing items that
you would like to keep hidden from the public eye.
When you hire a bathroom contractor, you are under the assumption that they will
show up to the job with everything they need. And they should! However, it is
proper contractor etiquette to offer up a glass of ice water or some other
beverage simply because you know that they are working hard for you and they
could probably use the replenishing. Plus, you never know if such a kind act
will convince them to lower the price on something, complete the project faster,
or make any changes that you want without complaint. It’s always a good idea to
be kind, receptive, and respectful unless given a reason not to.
Preparing For Bathroom Remodeling Work
Try to prepare the site that will be remodeled before the contractor arrives.
For example, if the remodel contractors will be tiling, hanging sheetrock, and
caulking, then plan to have a mat where they can wipe their feet before walking
through your house. Also, it might be a good idea to have some old rags or
towels that they can use to wipe their hands so that nothing accidentally gets
wiped on your furniture or walls. Most contractors will come prepared with such
clothes and be cautious of your home, but it’s always better to be safe then
sorry.
Additional considerations may include allowing the bathroom contractors access
to water cups, a place to wash tools off and clean themselves up, electrical
sources and any thing else that you can predict someone in their position
needing. Keep in mind, you are not responsible for providing them with anything,
but it would be kind to do so and may benefit your relationship with the
contractor in regards to your remodeling job. If, for some reason, an issue
arises between the contractor and yourself, try not to be disagreeable. Lastly,
always compliment a job well done.
